The Customer
We met Kelly, a professional woman in her 40s, at the annual Harbour Festival in July 2015. She approached the Bristol BlueGreen stand as she was interested in how electricity is used in her family home. With a husband and two children, she was keen to save money on her bills and find out which appliances were energy hungry.
The Problem
Kelly told us that she had an annual electricity bill of £700 – £1,000 and wanted to see how she could reduce it. There is a growing demand for domestic energy management solutions and the BlueGreen Power Saver offers a reduction in electrical energy consumption for over 20 years.
The Solution
We demonstrated the Power Saver technology to Kelly and explained that by regulating her voltage to a lower level she would see a reduction in her bill between 6% and 12%. This is achieved as most domestic appliances work at their optimum when electricity is supplied at around 220 volts. As voltages rise, rather than providing better performance, the appliances waste the extra energy supplied as heat and suffer a shorter life. As the average voltage supply in the UK is around 242 to 245 volts, a reduction to 220 volts can have a big impact on lowering energy consumption and extending appliance lifetime.
The Results
Kelly was delighted to hear that we offer a free safety and BlueGreen-compatibility survey before any commitment to purchase is made. This makes sure that the existing electrical system has no major faults that need repairing before the Power Saver can be installed, and gives us an opportunity to measure the incoming voltage and advise what the savings might be. In Kelly’s case, the incoming voltage varied between 245 and 255 volts, and we estimated that she would save around 10%, delivering savings of between £70 and £100 per annum.
The BlueGreen Power Saver was installed in Kelly’s house in December 2015 and delivered savings of £57 in the first eight months. Not only does the Power Saver deliver savings without any change in lifestyle, but through its unique app Kelly can see what she is saving and how much is being consumed at any time.
